"Männerbünde": From groups of friends to male networks in business and top-level politics
ORGANISED BY: White Ribbon Austria
Men’s fraternities and networks have historically been highly successful means of amassing influence and power for men (and sometimes women too). Men’s fraternities can be found in business, politics, sport and all other competitive spheres of society. The same behavioural patterns are instilled as early as the playground and can be observed, at least in part, in many male social circles and friendships. Simon Brezina, a social worker and project manager at the White Ribbon Austria association (Men Against Violence Against Women), will present the socio-theoretical foundations of masculinity that lead to men’s cliques, and will discuss with participants practical ways in which a gender-democratic coexistence based on equality can be achieved.
