Peter Punk im Wiener Nimmerland – A stroll through Vienna away from the picture-postcard idyll
FURTHER INFORMATION: Please bring a raincoat or similar
Unfortunately, the walk is only partially accessible
ORGANISED BY: Wiener Nimmerland
Martin takes you on a journey through his past – a time when drugs dominated his daily life and the streets were his home. At the age of 17, he ran away from the children’s home and, after a series of twists and turns, ended up in the heart of Vienna’s drug scene. What began as a supposed freedom quickly turned into a struggle for survival amid addiction, homelessness and the feeling of not belonging anywhere.
A particular highlight of the tour is the story of the legendary Pizzeria Anarchia, one of Vienna’s most famous squats, in which Martin was involved. You’ll hear first-hand why a house squatted by 19 people was cleared by 1,700 police officers in 2014 and what went on behind the scenes – an event that caused an international stir.
He doesn’t just share his story; he also talks about social inequalities, prejudice, exclusion and how society treats those on the margins.
Meeting point: Karlsplatz Underground station entrance, towards Resslpark (next to the police station)
